30 Minutes
In our daily lives, we hardly notice the garbage that surrounds us. We are rarely confronted
with a large accumulation of waste, so that the parts scattered in the environment
escape our perception. The series “30 Minutes” addresses this perceptual dilemma by giving
the mass of garbage the size that does justice to the problem. It does this by what the
title suggest: A thirty minute walk. The in this time photographed waste is first separated from
its surroundings and then placed into a collage. A mountain of garbage is created, which
reveals the true dimension of the waste in our environments. By staggering and enlarging the waste,
the series invites viewers to become more aware of the extent and consequences of their
consumer behaviour and to question it.
